In Microsoft Power Platform, developers can collaborate with citizen developers to enhance business solutions and solve complex requirements by using the platform's various extension capabilities with code. Thanks to a native integration with Azure, developers can use their cloud development skills to extend the Power Platform with different Azure services.
In this session, you'll learn how to take advantage of the key developer extensibility points of the Power Platform like building custom UI components using Power Apps component framework, create custom connectors for Power Apps and Power Automate to communicate to your external data sources and services, create custom Power BI visuals using the open-source SDK, and more!
We'll cover the most interesting aspects of the Power Platform extensibility through multiple demos and step-by-step tutorials based on my own experience.

Below are the questions and answers from the July 2023 Meetup Session.

    Q. Tell us a bit about yourself? – City, family, hobbies, job title

    A. I’m living in the French part of Switzerland in a small city named La Tour-de-Peilz by the Lake of Geneva. I was born in Montreux and moved in this city long time ago with my parents and after I didn’t move again from here because I love this area. I have a girlfriend but no kid yet. I’m doing sport outside regularly all the year, even in winter! I’m working as Business Applications Consultant for Sword Technologies part of Sword Group and my office is based in Nyon close to Geneva.

    Q. Tell us something about yourself that not many people know about you?
    A. I’m a member of a cigar club.

    Q. What does a typical workday look like for you?
    A. It depends if I’m working from home or not, but usually I wake up early to plan my day and prepare some important meetings I’ll attend this day. Sometimes I go on site for my customer for specific projects because in person is better or I’m working from home or from my office in Nyon to see my colleagues. I take a quick lunch break before beginning the afternoon. At the end of the day, I love to meet my colleagues and have some drinks outside by the lake.

    Q. 1st job out of college
    A. iOS developer.

    Q. Your 1st version of SharePoint that you experienced and what year
    A. SharePoint 2013 in 2016.

    Q. Last challenging project and why? (this should relate to your demo)
    A. Implementing a CI/CD strategy with Azure DevOps for some Power Platform developments in a big company that wasn’t aware of what is Power Platform, DevOps, CI/CD and these kind of things.

    Q. What is the biggest mistake that your feel holds back your clients from the results they want (this should relate to your demo)
    A. Always making a strong analysis on what is the current state of a company and his vision related to the products they want to implement before starting any big project like CI/CD or DevOps for Power Platform.

    Q. Describe a SharePoint train wreck project, and what did you learn?
    A. Migrating around 10 complex applications to SharePoint Online and more globally Microsoft 365. I learned that the business analysis part is the key and must be done rigorously especially for cloud transformation and modernization projects.

    Q. Your favorite M365 feature/tool and why
    A. SharePoint Online because you can almost do everything with it.

    Q. Where do you think Microsoft is going with M365.. Be totally honest
    A. Actually I think the only word is... AI! So Microsoft is implementing AI everywhere from developer to productivity tools at all levels and I’m really excited to see all these features live.

    Q. What are the 3 cool features of the demo?
    A. My demos are focused on the Pro Dev side of the Power Platform so people will understand all the aspects of the code first features in the Power Platform.

    Q. What is the sizzle?
     A. A lot of quick demos that represent perfectly the Pro Dev side of the Power Platform which is not well known in this low code/no code platform.

    Q. What was your first job out of hire school
    A. iOS developer.

    Q. What's your biggest nightmare project you have worked on … And what did you learn from this experience
    A. Trying to implement deployment best practices for Microsoft 365 in a company where the IT team thinks they are better than you. I learned that change management and adoption strategy is really a good thing for all the projects related to Microsoft 365 deployment.

    Q. What’s the best and worst tech advice you’ve been given
    A. Best: try to involve only the people that would like to join a project.
Worst: check the documentation, everything is inside!

    Q. What are you working on to become a developer/consultant / CTO
    A. A lot of different transformation and modernization projects related to Microsoft cloud with different complexity levels.

    Q. Where do you want to be in 5 years?
    A. Maybe having my own company or leading a team in my actual company.

    Q. What's your blind spot in your Microsoft knowledge? Pitfalls
    A. I started from the cloud directly, I wasn’t really interested in the on-premises world of Microsoft products at the beginning to be honest.

    Q. Where do you source your knowledge? - Twitter- who do you follow, site urls
